Empowering vulnerable children through education

The Margaret Okari Children’s Foundation (MOCF) educates, feeds, clothes, shelters, and advocates for at-risk children in Kisii, Kenya. The Foundation runs a school for children in Pre-K through year 8, and supports qualified students as they pursue their Secondary and University educations.

We believe that educating our children has the power to shape their destinies, and that the collective power of educated individuals can influence the destiny of Africa herself.

- Kwamboka Okari, Founder and Executive Director

Thank you to everyone who made Giving Tuesday a huge success!

Giving Tuesday is our biggest fundraising event of the year and provides for a large majority of our yearly operating budget. We are funded almost entirely by individual donors and we couldn’t do it without you! This year we raised over $52,000 (including $13,500 in matching funds) from 173 individual donors. Thank you to all who donated! We are still always in need of additional funding so if you missed Giving Tuesday, you can still donate today!

The Highest Quality Education

We have once again finished #1 out of 179 schools in our sub-county based on testing scores. And we also ranked #19 out of 956 schools in the entire county. This is possible thanks to the hard work and perseverance of both our students and incredible teachers, as well as the generosity of financial donors.

Working Towards Greater Sustainability

MOCF is currently funded entirely by charitable donations from individuals and various foundations. We also only accept at-risk children (most orphans or with single parents). To become more financially sustainable and increase our impact we are working towards a future where we will begin accepting a certain amount of paying students. Demand for admission to our school from paying students is already high given the incredible quality of education that our teachers provide. To this end, we are running a capital campaign to build out our school’s infrastructure so that we can serve more students.

Words are not enough to describe how grateful I am to everyone who supported me to become the person I am today. I believe that someday I will also stretch a hand to the needy who cannot afford a quality education.
